A team of river revivers from Echo Northern Ireland polished their halos and took part in ‘Be a Saint’ volunteer day organised by Business in the Community and Volunteer Now.

This is the second year in a row the team has joined hundreds of employees from organisations across Northern Ireland to complete practical team challenge projects to help community groups and schools to improve their facilities and the environment.

Comic actress Nuala McKeever got the team under way at the launch of ‘Be a Saint’ day at the Forestside Shopping Centre in Belfast. They then raced over to Colin Glen Trust to begin their challenge.

Echo’s river revivers donned their waterproofs and wellies and got stuck into a day of litter picking down at the river, followed by pathway clearing. Paula Denvir, Echo’s contact centre service delivery manager tells us “Despite the torrential rain we had a brilliant day. It was great to be lending a hand in our local community and very educational. The people from Colin Glen Trust explained the history of the area, the importance of the geology and the wildlife”. Colin Glen Trust is a cross community organisation committed to the development and management of the Colin River Valley. Originally formed in 1989 it has now grown into one of the largest community-led environmental schemes in Europe.

Julie Cusick from Volunteer Now said “We were delighted to welcome the Echo Northern Ireland team back for their second successive ‘Be a Saint’ day. This annual joint venture with Business in the Community is proving year on year to be a popular and eagerly anticipated date on the business calendar. It is great to see so many businesses continuing to support their local communities in this practical and fun way.”

Nigel Lloyd, Echo’s Finance and Commercial Director, and CSR Board sponsor said “I am delighted that Echo was able to participate in ‘Be a Saint’ Day again this year. We feel it is very important for our teams to have the opportunity to support their local community and are already looking forward to next year’s event”.
