100 volunteers answered the phone lines at Affinity Water’s Hatfield customer contact centre on Friday 15 November to help raise money for the BBC Children in Need appeal.

For the tenth year in a row, employees from across the business gave up their evening to take cash donations and pledges from the public from 6.30pm until after midnight.

Ian Hankin, Affinity Water’s Resource and Planning Manager, who organised the company’s operation on the night, said:  “Affinity Water is proud once again to be involved with Children in Need.  It’s great that so many employees volunteered to answer the phones and take donations from the public. We have answered 2,325 calls, 300 more than last year and the total donations taken were around £72,000.”

During the day, some staff in the contact centre wore  pyjamas and other fancy-dress clothing, in honour of Pudsey Bear, Children in Need’s familiar mascot.

In addition, staff from other teams will be organising cake sales, quizzes, raffles and tombolas to boost the cash donations.
