A team of 11 employees from local insurance contact centre Fusion provided one lucky street in the West End of Newcastle with a surprise makeover.

The volunteering challenge was organised for Fusion by national charities ‘Business in the Community’ and ‘Groundwork’, which specialise in partnering with local businesses to transform local communities.

The volunteers eagerly took to the street and helped with a variety of tasks including weeding, moss removal, and the trimming of hedges for more than 60 homes. The group also helped to tidy the front of the houses, which are predominately privately rented or part of a housing association.

Louise McNally, Fusion Sunderland employee, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the street clean-up day and a number of residents came out to thank us and said what a difference our hard work had made to their street. As a team, we left feeling extremely proud that we had all accomplished such a worthwhile task.”

Michelle Brannen, from Business in the Community, said: “Fusion has been actively involved in the projects offered by Business in the Community and Groundwork for a number of years, and really recognises the importance and the added-value of being involved in its local community. The team at Fusion is always keen to get ‘stuck-in’ and happy to assist with all manner of activities – no matter how big or how messy!”
